Heirloom Cinema was created to transform family history into something more meaningful than a tree, a binder, or a collection of old photographs. We produce cinematic legacy films that combine genealogy, historical research, restored photographs, archival materials, period imagery, narration, and documentary storytelling to bring an ancestor’s world to life. The goal is simple: to create something your family will not just store, but actually watch, share, and pass down.

More Than Genealogy.

Genealogy tells us who came before us. A legacy film helps us understand who they were. We begin with the research, photographs, records, documents, and family stories you already have. Then, as documentary filmmakers, we conduct augmented research to uncover historical context, places, occupations, military service, newspaper accounts, and other details that can deepen the story. From there, we shape those facts into a compelling narrative and use modern filmmaking tools to recreate the people, places, and moments that might otherwise exist only as names and dates.

Heirloom Cinema is a division of Media Crafters Productions and is led by Don Maynard, an award-winning filmmaker with more than 40 years of experience in video and film production. That background matters. These films are not automated slideshows generated from a family tree. Each project is approached as a documentary: researched, written, visually designed, narrated, edited, and crafted around the emotional heart of the story. Modern AI tools allow us to restore damaged photographs, create historically informed visualizations, and recreate scenes that could never have been filmed. But the technology serves the story—not the other way around.
